John L. Bertoldo

Every day, John L. Bertoldo stands up for people facing some of the most difficult moments of their lives. For more than four decades, he has devoted his career to protecting injury victims from being intimidated, shortchanged, or taken advantage of by insurance companies.

Raised in a large family, John’s natural argumentative streak was recognized early on. His mother famously told him, “As much as you like to argue, someday you’ll be a great attorney.” That encouragement became a defining moment, setting him on a lifelong path toward advocacy and justice.

John is known not only for his formidable legal skills, but for the genuine care he shows his clients. Many relationships extend well beyond the courtroom. As John often says, when he runs into former clients, he does not get a handshake. He gets a bear hug.

John’s commitment to discipline and perseverance was shaped early in life, including during his two-year mission to Italy. He went on to earn a joint Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration from Brigham Young University, a combination that strengthened both his legal reasoning and strategic insight.

John began practicing law in 1985 and quickly established himself as a powerful advocate for injured individuals. His early career reinforced his belief that plaintiffs need strong, fearless representation to level the playing field against well-funded insurance carriers.

John has been a partner at Carter Cullen since 1992 and has served as managing partner for more than three decades. Throughout his career, he has dedicated his practice exclusively to plaintiffs’ personal injury law.

He is especially known for his work on high-stakes cases involving severe trauma, brain injury, and wrongful death. Over the years, John has helped thousands of clients navigate life-altering injuries with clarity, compassion, and unwavering advocacy.
