Golconda has a population of a little over 200 individuals. It is located on the Humboldt River along Route 80. The town was named after the diamond mining center of Golconda, India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Golconda was established when copper, silver, gold, and lead were discovered in the area. Entrepreneurs from all over opened mines and mills there. During its peak mining years, the town was extremely diverse. It had citizens of all ethnicities including native-born European Americans, French, Portuguese, Paiute, and Chinese.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the early 1900s, the mining industry became less popular, and Golconda\u2019s mines closed. After that, ranching and farming became popular. Currently, Golconda is considered just a stop on Route 80.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The river along which Golconda is situated is the third longest river in the Great Basin of Nevada. It empties into the Humboldt Sink, and it is the 5th largest river in the United States. While it does not have an outlet to the ocean, it is the largest in terms of the area drained.
